August 21, 1936 – February 23, 2021
Adeline Ramona Chandler, 84, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2021, after a long illness.
She was born August 21, 1936, in Plymouth WV, the daughter of Jonathan and Virginia Brown.
Adeline was united in marriage to Richard Eugene Chandler, Sr. on October 15, 1955. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2013. They were married for 57 blissful years.
Mother Chandler was a member of Powerhouse of Deliverance Church in Dunbar, where she was revered as a "Mother of the Church."
Adeline retired as a dental assistant for Dr. Melvin L. Mosley in Dunbar. She returned to work as the head cook at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Dunbar, while she and her husband, Richard, devotedly fostered many children in their home. Adeline was a pillar of the community; she had a passion for cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for her loved ones. She was a gift of love and a treasure to all.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathan and Virginia Brown; daughters, Brenda Lee and Karen Elaine (Bunny) Green; son, Richard Eugene (Ricky) Chandler, Jr.; granddaughter, DaShae Nerelle Churchill; son-in-law, Tony Lang; foster children, Jermaine Sutton and Shawntique Whitfield; siblings, Joe, Jonathan, Roland, Robert, Kenneth, Audrey, Cora, Verona, Dean, Linda, and Diane.
Adeline's memory will be cherished by her sister, Bessie Austin of Dunbar; son, Melvin (Yolanda) Chandler of Menifee, CA; daughters, Victoria "Toby" (Willie) Wooden of South Charleston, Melvina Lang of Dunbar, Leasa Chandler of St. Petersburg, FL, and Bitteen Chandler of Atlanta, GA; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the Powerhouse of Deliverance Church, Dunbar. A private service for the family will follow.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
