Obituary

Reverend Albert M. Ashby, Sr., 69, of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

He was born in Charleston on June 15, 1947 to the late Virgil and Mary Ashby.

Albert was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. He had worked at Libbey Owens Ford; then later as a welder at J & W Portable Welding and Charleston Steel.

He cherished spending time with his family, enjoyed gospel music, and loved the outdoors. Albert was very obedient to God and pastored at Wolf Creek Baptist Church, Sunlight Community Church and Legg Fork Community Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Ashby; and sisters, Betty Bowersox, Nora Varney, Donna Davis, and Carol Pridemore.

Albert is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda; children, Albert, Jr. (Melinda), Wes, and Steven (Arin); grandchildren, Jordan (Kelsey), Destiny, Taylor, Krisi, Lauren, Dawson, Harlyn, Shrader, Coby (Amanda), Ethan, Cole, Kailyn and Kasen; Joey Ashby, whom Albert thought of as a son; and a host of family and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Rev. Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 30, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
