Alberta Maxine Haston, 88, of Institute passed away on June 9, 2022.
She was born September 8, 1933 in Legg, WV. She was the second of three children born to the late Henry and Florence Haston.
Alberta better known as Bert attended elementary school in Institute and graduated from West Virginia State College Teacher Training High School. She graduated from West Virginia State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology, psychology, and health education.
She was assistant dormitory director at West Virginia State College, as well as, supervising the girls rifle team. Later, Alberta worked as the assistant to the dietitian at West Virginia State College for one year before settling into law enforcement as a juvenile officer for 20 years. She was known as a sharp shooter.
Alberta is survived by her sisters, Betty Bowman and Melzenia Fluellen; nieces, Alice J. Wilson (Mitchel) of Philadelphia, PA and Candy Brewer; nephews, John Bowman and Derrick Bowman of Philadelphia, PA, Melvin L. Fluellen, Anthony W. Fluellen, Steven Jones all of Columbus, OH; god son Peter Gordon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Institute Church of The Nazarene, Institute with the Rev. Fred McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Institute Church of The Nazarene, Institute.
