Alice Marie Hartwell, 85, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

She was born on March 5, 1938 in Quincy, to the late Simon and Evelyn Green.

Alice was a LPN at Staats Hospital in Charleston for 15 years and then was a psychiatric nurse at Highland Hospital for 20 years. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and raised numerous kids from around the neighborhood in addition to taking care her own family. She was loved by many people and will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughters, Karla Sue Hartwell and Kimberley Ann Hartwell ; her husband of 49 years, Delmer Hugh Hartwell Sr ; and sister, Arlene M. Sloane.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Karen Hartwell-Souder and husband Harold of South Charleston; sisters, Alpha Sutters and husband Charles of South Charleston, Anna Mayfield of Alabama; brother, Simon Leonard Green and wife Deanna of South Carolina; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many family and friends whom she loved dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, with Rev. Roger Hartwell officiating.
