Alice Faye
Jarrell Peters
December 30, 1940 – January 5, 2025
Alice Faye Jarrell Peters was born on December 30, 1940, in Gordon, West Virginia to Johnny Preston Jarrell and Frances Marjorie Windland Jarrell. Alice was the sixth of nine children born to Frances and Johnny. She grew up in Van, West Virginia. At 16 she met Tom Peters, the love of her life. In 1958 they married and had three children: Eddie, Bob, and Lisa Peters. They loved one another until at the day they died. They lived in Quinland, Madison, Price Hill, and St. Albans, West Virginia where they raised their family. Alice loved working in the flower shop in Madison. She was often asked to make bouquets for family weddings and funeral sprays for funerals. She enjoyed cooking the vegetables that Tom would grow in his garden. She canned and made jams with the local blackberries and peaches that grew on her tree. Every summer and Easter vacation, they would open their house to Alice's sister Dolores and her kids. They enjoyed their friends and even took a dream vacation to Hawaii with them.
They moved to Columbia, South Carolina when Tom retired, where they enjoyed fishing on Lake Murray. Tom loved gardening, but found the soil in South Carolina extremely hard. Tom had to use a pickaxe to break the ground up to make his garden. Alice kept hummingbird feeders filled so that they could enjoy watching the birds on their screened porch or putting up their huge Christmas decoration display. When Tom passed Alice moved up north to Michigan to be near her sisters and brother, but soon found that she missed WV. She moved back to St. Albans where she had a small apartment at the senior tower. She enjoyed completing puzzles, working on her flower arrangements and cruising with her sisters and her niece's family. Ed and his family welcomed her to their home in California to live with them. Alice often spoke of sitting under the orange tree in their backyard or playing with the grandkids while she was there. Three years ago, Alice moved into Lisa's house in Marmet, where she has lived with her daughter. Alice was taken to the hospital on her 84th birthday and died a few days later on January 5, 2025.
Alice is predeceased by her loving husband, Lowell Thomas "Tom" Peters; her parents, Johnny and Frances Jarrell; her siblings, Betty Jane Mann, Harold Dean Jarrell, Norma Jean White, Dolores Jones, Joyce Ann (who died at the age of 2), Linda Kaye Stepp, and Sharon Lee Jarrell.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen (Ron) Smith; her children, Ed (Margie) Peters, Bob (Karen) Peters, and Lisa Peters. She has seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Natasha and Kayla Peters, Derek Whiteside, Isaac and Hannah Peters and Joshua Peters. Alice had three great-grandkids, Thomas (TJ) Betance, Ethan Kueneman, and Bradyn Garcia. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in Cunningham Memorial Cemetery in St. Albans, West Virginia where she will be interred next to her husband.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
