Allen Lewis Young, 59, of Cross Lanes, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.
Born on July 16, 1953 in Kanawha County, he was the son of Helen M. (St. Clair) Young and the late Lewis Marion Young.
Allen was not only a son, friend and brother, he was the "go to Guy!" He always knew how to get things and who to call to help out and he was the first in line to help anyone he could. He volunteered most of his time for special events, including the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta, 4th of July celebrations, many car shows and the St. Albans Riverfest. Allen was a DJ on the radio airwaves for years and he worked at Skateland Roller Rink in Kanawha City for years where he made so many friends. He was a graduate of the 1971 class of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston. He also was an avid train lover and was a member of the Huntington Train Association.
In addition to his father, Allen was preceded in death by his grandmother, Hilda Gladys St. Clair Bishop.
Surviving are his mother, Helen Margaret Young; sisters, Robin White and Michelle Collins and her husband, Archie of Winston-Salem, NC, Kay Lucas and her husband, Scott of Fayetteville, NC and Tina Vance and her husband, Tim of St. Albans; nieces, Marie and Megan Vance of St. Albans and six others nieces and three nephews in NC: Also surviving are cousins, Dee Dee Carney of South Charleston, Sandra and Jerry Smith of San Jose, CA, Daniel (Duke) Kelly and Daniel (Dan) Kelly of Miami, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Phil Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
