Amie Manetta
Smith
March 9, 1927 – July 12, 2025
Amie Manetta Smith, lovingly known as "Nanny," passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 98.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, on March 9, 1927, Amie lived a life defined by unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and the people whose lives she quietly helped shape every day.
A longtime resident of Dunbar, Amie served on the Dunbar City Council for 28 years, becoming a pillar of her community and a trusted voice for her neighbors. Her legacy can be seen throughout the city, where seven plaques proudly bear her name, marking decades of commitment, care, and tireless advocacy.
Amie was the devoted mother of three children, the cherished grandmother of six, the proud great-grandmother of eleven, and the beloved great-great-grandmother of three. But her love extended far beyond bloodlines—Amie was "Nanny" not just to her family, but to an entire neighborhood. Her home was always full of warmth, her door was always open, and no one ever left her house with an empty stomach. Whether it was a meal, a kind word, or a hug to anyone needing comfort, she gave of herself freely and without hesitation.
Amie's life was deeply rooted in her Christian faith. She was a woman of tremendous belief who lived out her values with grace, humility, and compassion. Her faith guided her through life's joys and hardships and gave her the strength to keep giving.
She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Opie Smith, her son Terry Smith, and her daughters Sandra Poe and Carol Hintz. Though she experienced deep loss, she never wavered in her faith or her love for others.
Whether through her civic work, kindness, love, faith, or quiet strength, Amie lived a life of purpose and grace. Her presence was a steady light in the lives of many, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
A funeral service to celebrate Amie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, WV, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
