Andre
Sherrod
September 12, 1966 – February 19, 2021
Andre Sherrod, 54, of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Logan and Charleston, gained his heavenly reward on Friday, February 19, 2021 at King's Daughters Medical Center, after a sudden illness.
He was born on September 12, 1966 in Mount Gay to Annie Sherrod and the late, great George Sherrod.
Andre was a member of the Rehoboth Cathedral of Christ in Charleston.
He fell in love with boxing as a child watching Muhammed Ali fight. Andre believed that if Ali could achieve greatness from the sport then so could he and he started training seven hours a day in 1983. After four years training, he won his first Golden Gloves in 1987 and again in 1988. Andre became the West Virginia State Light Heavy Weight Boxing Champion in 1992. By the time he ended his career in 2001 he had, as he loved to say, "seen more of the world than any black man from Logan he had ever known."
Andre is survived by his mother, Annie M. Sherrod; children, Jamelle Clark of Harrison Township, MI, Alexis Sherrod and Andre Sherrod II of Prince George's County, MD, Andreana DeWebster of Washington, DC, Trenton Sherrod and Tori Sherrod of South Point, OH; grandchildren, Dayton Hood, Payton Hood, Anthony Morris II, Robert Kinnebrew, Abigail Morris and Titus Morris; his only brother, George J Sherrod of Charleston; six sisters, Barbara Bailey of Columbus, OH, Beverly Sherrod of Glen Burnie, MD, Brenda Early, Sandra Sherrod, Lisa Sherrod and Kristie Sherrod of Charleston; along with a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In his final expression of love, Andre was an organ donor.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Bishop James Carter II officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
