Obituary

Ann Carlton (Pettry) Skiba, 95, daughter of Guy Carlton Pettry and Sara Jean (Buckley) Pettry, died on Friday, January 24, at the Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston, WV, after a short illness.

Ann was a graduate of Charleston Catholic High School, and always stayed involved in the school either through her children and their activities, or her grandchildren.  She was a proud band parent at CCHS, as well as frequent chaperone.  Her husband, Joe, was a coach of several sports at CCHS and in the community, and she would always be there to assist in any way possible.  The family love of sports came from them, from high school, to college (WVU always) to professional (Cincinnati Reds, then Atlanta Braves when she was in South Carolina).  During her time in South Carolina, she was a member of a book club, working at the local library as a volunteer, became part of a bowling league, and walked many miles for the joy of being outdoors.  She was a wife, mother, and homemaker, but that was only part of the woman she was.  She attended Christ the King Catholic Church in the past, and returned there with her move from South Carolina.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; and more recently her brother-in-law, Tom Propps; along with sister-in-law, Carolyn Skiba.

Ann was the mother of four children, Debbie Wiley (Jim), Kathy Rizk, Terry Skiba (Debbie), and Andy Skiba (Missy).  She welcomed a large family of grandchildren, Brian Wiley (Tracey), Sara Todd, and Amy Hodgens (Jeff), Heather Jarrett (Mark) and Daniel Rizk, Emily DiMatteo (Chris) and Eric Skiba (Morgan; as well as, 16 (soon to be 17) great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Judy Propps (Tom).

Ann's family would like to thank Harmony at Southridge for their care over the past few years, as well as Jade Smith Lewis, the Visiting Angels, and Hubbard Hospice House West and 3 South and Trauma Stepdown at General Division CAMC for all they have done for her.

A funeral service for Ann will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to: Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25387 or Christ the King Church PO Box 339, Nitro, WV 25143.
