Obituary

Anna Louise Campbell, 102, of Dunbar, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Hubbard Hospice House West.

Louise was born on August 23, 1922, in Black Betsy, WV and was the last surviving child of Pete and Maggie Lloyd. A resident of Dunbar for almost 77 years, she was raised in Poca, WV.  She was a graduate of Poca High School and Charleston School of Commerce. Upon graduation from the School of Commerce, she was employed by American Viscose in Nitro.

In 1948, she married Joseph Campbell, the brother of her best friend, and moved to Dunbar where she lived until her passing.  She retired from work outside of the home after her first daughter was born.

Louise enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, reading, and traveling.  She served as homeroom mother for many years, was Girl Scout troop leader, a Scout Day Camp leader and a 4-H leader.  She was an active member in what is now the Dunbar United Methodist Church until she was no longer able to attend.  She was avid bowler in her younger years.  It was hard to look at this 4' 11", 91 lb. woman and know that she lettered in basketball while at Poca High School.  She was also a die-hard fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and WVU football and basketball teams, particularly women's basketball.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, (Joe), her two brothers, (Buck Lloyd and John Lloyd) and her two sisters (Naomi Smith and Alma Jividen).

Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands  (both of whom she thought of as sons) Betty (Mike) Painter and Nancy (Steve) Campbell all of Dunbar.  But the light of her eyes was her two grandsons, Robert (Emily) Campbell of Fairfax, VA and Alan (Chelsi) Campbell of La Mesa, CA.  When they were born, the daughters move a notch down on her totem pole.  They recently moved down another notch when her first great-grandson was born, Graham Joseph Campbell of Fairfax, VA.

We are a family of faith who believe she is with God and has joined other members of the family that have gone on before her and who have welcomed her with joy and open arms.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
