Obituary

Ardith Maxine McCown Tackett Williams of Tyler Mountain was born June 18, 1930 in a four room house beside L M McCown and Son on Tyler Mountain.

She entered her eternal home on January 10, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer where her body and mind were made whole again and she saw her Savior that she loved so much.

At the age of 11, she accepted Christ as her Savior. She and her sister Kathleen were baptized together in the Poca River that she said was so muddy. She was a Girl Scout at McKinnon Presbyterian Church, where she was a member until she moved to Hurricane. During World War II, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. She was a den mother for cub scouts, a Sunday school teacher, she worked in the nursery and primary departments where she also played the piano and sang in the adult choir. She also served as an Elder and was a member of the Tyler Mountain Homemakers Club.

Ardith attended Tyler Elementary School, Dunbar Jr High and Dunbar High School and graduated from Charleston School of Commerce Business College.

Ardith worked at Kroger, C & P Telephone Co. and then went to work at LM McCown & Son where she eventually retired.

On February 18, 1950, at the the age of 19, in the McKinnon Chapel on Tyler Mountain, she married William Robert Tackett from Diamond, WV and they raised 2 children together. They built a home beside her parents and sister Kathleen. After his passing in 1986, she married Chester O. Williams on September 29, 1990 and he passed in 2000.

She lived out the last 11 years of her life at Teays Valley Assisted Living. Our family cannot express enough our love and gratitude for their loving care and kindness.

Ardith is preceded in death by her parents, Hurchel and Chessie McCown, her beloved sister Kathleen Burford, her husband of 36 years William Tackett and later Chester Williams.
