Obituary

Arnold Wilson "Bill " Johnston passed away peacefully on March 26, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston from complications of Type II Diabetes and Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born on November 5, 1935 in Huntington, to the late Shelby Trenton and Vesta Edmonds Johnston. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and Naval Reserve. He attended Dunbar First Baptist Church in Dunbar.

Bill was a graduate of Marshall High School and attended Marshall University, both in Huntington. He was a Landlord and a former Realtor and Insurance Claims Adjuster. He was a past-President of the WV Claims Association and the Optimist Club. He was a proud member of the WV Landlord's Association. Bill enjoyed his weekly poker game with his poker buddies for 35+ years. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing basketball, volleyball, golf, and tennis and participated in the National Senior Olympics held in Tucson, AZ and Pittsburgh, PA. Bill will be remembered and missed by those who knew him for his humor, loyalty, and giving nature.

Bill is survived by the love of his life and wife of 16 years, Dena Carpenter Johnston; his son, Eric (Jeanette) Johnston; granddaughter, Hannah Johnston; grandson, Garrett Johnston; and great-granddog, Miss Daisy Johnston all of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandson, Shane Gonzalez; and granddaughter, Danielle Johnston (children of his daughter, Leah, who passed in 2010) both of St. Lucie, FL; his brother, Alva (Carol) Johnston of Huntington; sister, Naomi Melton of Tallassee, AL; several nieces and nephews and his in-laws whom he loved dearly.

A Celebration of Bill's life will be held at Dunbar First Baptist Church, 16 th St. and Myers Ave., Dunbar on April 26, 2014 at noon with the Rev. Chester Bird officiating. A luncheon and time of visitation will immediately follow the memorial service at the church.
