Obituary

Arthur Adkins, Sr., 94, son of the late Lee R. Adkins, Sr. and Maude Monroe Adkins, peacefully departed this life on October 29, 2025.

Arthur shared a life filled with love and devotion for his cherished wife, the late Anna Lucille Woods Adkins, whom he married on September 1, 1953.  Together, they raised eight children and welcomed two stepsons—Edward Young and Howard Dean—into their family.  Their partnership, spanning decades, was a foundation of love, strength, and guidance until Anna's passing in 2008.

A devoted family man and faithful member of the Institute Church of the Nazarene, Arthur was admired for his unwavering faith, kindness, and gentle spirit.  He dedicated many years of his life to Charleston Area Medical Center, leaving a legacy of hard work, professionalism, and service until his retirement in 1996.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his stepsons, Edward and Howard; his grandson, Dominic Young; his brothers, Lee Jr., James E., Charles, Wilbert, Frederick, George Harvey, Albert, and Edgar; and his sisters, Elenora Claytor, Thelma Booker, Lelia Wynn, Marietta Johnson, Minnie Lou Adkins, and Julia Ann Adkins.

He leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy: his children, Arthur Adkins Jr. (Bessie) of Bristol, PA, Pamela Willaims (Kenneth) of Dunbar, WV, Joyce Thomas, Denise Adkins (Buck), Michael Adkins, Sr. (Valerie), Kimberly Irving (Merrill), Anthony Adkins, and Kessell Adkins; his brother, Robert Adkins (Brenda) of Redford, MI; his sisters, Margaret Williams (Joe) of Dunbar, WV and Nonia Yancy of St. Albans, WV; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

The family would like to extend heartfelt 'thanks' to the staff of 7 South at Vandalia Health CAMC General Division, Kanawha Hospice, and Dr. Lester Labus of WVU Medicine for providing our father with excellent care.  "Your compassion, professionalism, and dedication made a difficult time easier for our family, and we are deeply grateful for all that you did."

A celebration of Arthur's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Institute Church of the Nazarene.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
