Audrey Mae Thomas, 98, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
She was born on March 2, 1928 in Laing, WV, to the late Elmer and Lillie Williams.
Audrey worked as a nurses aid in several Kanawha Valley hospitals in the 50’s and 60’s. Her favorite job was serving as nanny to the family of Sue and Stafford Warren for 13 years. She remained close to the Warren family long after her retirement.
She was a faithful member of Loudendale Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School and participated in missions and ministries of the church.
Audrey served her community in many ways including leader of Girl Scout Troop 349. She made many significant friendships in that role. She enjoyed campouts, campfires and singing.
Her family was Audrey’s greatest treasure. She displayed numerous photographs of family in her home. She was proud of the accomplishments of her family. She enjoyed dance recitals, sporting events and travel. She loved having the family gather for cookouts in her yard.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas; sons, John Cooper and Pat Thomas; siblings, Clyde Minks, Charles Williams, and Doris Snider.
Audrey is survived by her sons, Paul Snider (Patty) of Parkersburg, Glen Thomas of Charleston, and Terry Thomas of Charleston; daughter, Sandra Dixon (Chuck) of Kanas City, MO. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.
She will be missed by all who knew her for her ability to keep your secrets, her smile and the warmth she extended to everyone she met.
A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, July 14, at Loudendale Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Chuck Pennington and Pastor Edison Hager officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Loudendale Church of the Nazarene.
