Bernard William Berry, born June 9, 1925, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at home after a long illness.
He worked for Purity Maid Bakery for 39 years as a truck driver until Flowers Bakery bought them out and he retired. He then asked the Lord to help him find a job until retirement and he drove a tractor and trailer for the Rite Aid Warehouse, Rock Branch, for 7 years until he retired in 1991. He loved driving the "Big Rigs." He enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He received several Safe Driver awards throughout his driving career. He loved going to church and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tyler Mountain. He was a loving father and a faithful friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. and Nettie Covey Berry; his wife of 49 ½ years, Anna Mae Berry; brothers, Forrest "Plucky," and Dayton Berry; sisters, Garnett Moss, Ethel Haynes and Phyllis Cummings.
He is survived by his brother, Rev. William K. Berry and his wife, Vivian; sister, Berneze Shamblin; daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Mullins and her husband, Gerald, whom he loved as a son. He has several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends who were all dear to him.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 6, at Keller Funeral Home with Pastor John Bodine officiating. Burial will follow in Covey Cemetery, Jackson County.
