Betty Bell Carnes, 87, of South Charleston passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at her daughter's home in N.C., surrounded by family.
She was born on December 28, 1927 to the late Fannie Bell (Gillespie) and Howard Osmer Woodall, she was the 3rd of 4 girls. She married "Corky" Carnes on May 31, 1947.
Betty attended Mt. Mission Church.
She was a 50 year member and Past Matron of South Charleston O.E.S. Chapter #131, Past Grand Representative to Australia of Grand Chapter of WV, was mother to the Grand Family of WV-OES during her daughter, Carla's year as Worthy Grand Matron of WV-OES 2007-2008. Betty was also a South Charleston Advisory Board member and Sponsor of the Year for South Charleston Rainbow Assembly #20. She was awarded the Grand Cross of Color of IORG, and was awarded Rainbow Sponsor of the Year for WV International Order of the Rainbow Girls.
Betty was a member of LOSNA, LOSNA Charleston Ladies Patrol, Past High Priestess of Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA), member of Order of the Amaranth, Pythian Sisters and member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
She bowled competitively, traveled with her husband, Corky, a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Motor Corps, rode Harley Davidson motorcycles with Corky and loved Cadillacs.
In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Milton Carlyle "Corky" Carnes; daughter, Carla Jean Wright; 3 sisters and their husbands.
She is survived by 3 children, Milton H. Carnes and his wife, Janice, Rebecca " Becky" S. Voiles and her husband, Jerry, daughter Carla's husband, Edward "Ned" Wright; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, March 26 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Will Basham officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
