Pastor Betty Jeane Chrest, died on April 9, 2023 at home after a short illness, surrounded by her family.
Born July 29, 1949 in Huntington to Fran Brown. Her birth name was Sandra Kay Brown. She was adopted by John and Mary Bailes and was given the name Mary Jeane Bailes. After Mary Bailes passed, John Bailes remarried Betty Bailes. She was then addressed by Betty Jeane Bailes. She legally changed her name to Betty Jeane on July 22, 1975.
Jeane worked for C&P Telephone Company as an operator from 1967 to 1969. She became a full time loving wife and mother in 1969. Jeane served as a secretary for Valley Christian Assembly full time for 17 years. She then retired into full time ministry as an ordained minister at Mountain Top Assembly of God for 23 years. She loved her family, her church family, neighbors, knitting, cooking and fellowshipping. Her greatest passion was the Lord God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years David Chrest Sr.; mother, Fran Whittaker and step-father, Bill Whittaker; Lou Pritt, who was like a mother to her; and her adopted parents John, Mary and Betty Bailes.
Jeane is survived by her children, Jeanie Lou Smith (Brian), David Chrest Jr., and Mike Chrest (Melanie); grandchildren, Thomas Peterson, Zachary Peterson, Joshua Peterson, and Arianna Chrest; great-grandchild, Alex Peterson. Jeane is also survived by her sister, Linda Reed (Dough); brother, Jack Bailes; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
