Betty Smith Drake, 89, of Sissonville, passed away on May 25, 2018.

Betty was born in Montcoal on August 29, 1928 to John and Mary Blisard. She was a graduate of Marshfork High School then attended Kanawha Valley Memorial Hospital Nursing School and graduated from a four year program as a registered nurse. She worked for Kanawha Valley Hospital until it closed and continued her career with CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital where she retired.

Betty was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sissonville for most of her life and an active member as choir director and leading scout troops. She loved nursing, music and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Blisard; husband, Donald Smith; brother John Blisard; sisters, Annalou Peay and Ruthe Kornya.

Betty is survived by her daughter Virginia (Ginny) Smith Gattlieb (Sam); son, William (Bill) Smith (Jeannie) of Ripley; grandchildren, Justin Smith of Ripley, Eric Gattlieb of Charleston, Sierra Cossin (Andrew) of Ripley; beloved niece, Janet Sisson (Donald) of Sissonville; great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to the staff of the skilled nursing unit at Roane General Hospital and Hospice Care.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
