Obituary

Betty Jo Holley entered into eternal peace to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 21, 2010 after a long illness.

She had spent the last 2 months at Dunbar Care and Rehabilitation Center. Prior to that she lived at her home with the care of her family, primarily her son, Benny.

Betty was born March 14, 1933 to the parents of Oscar and Martha Lucas of Morris Creek. At the age of 11 her family moved to Shade Creek in Victor, WV. Betty had very fond memories of her time growing up with her family on Shade Creek. Betty had lived the last 52 years in Dunbar. Betty's family was her life. She was always there when a need arrived, always putting other's needs in front of her own. She was affectionately known as "Betty Jo" to all of her family members, but to her children she was Mom, the best parent any child could ask for. To her grandchildren she was known as Maw Maw. They will all miss her dearly, but their memories will live on forever.

Betty was preceded in death by the true love of her life, her husband, Milton Holley in 1979; parents, Oscar and Martha Lucas; brothers, George, William, Oscar, Raymond and Charles Lucas; sisters, Ruby Arthur, Eva Ware, Louise Welch, Mary and Josephine Lucas; grandson, Thomas Aaron Bowen.

Betty is survived by her children Jo Ann Zirkle (Robert Sayre) of Cross Lanes; Garland and Debbie Holley of Charleston; Hazel and Thomas Bowen of Charleston; Benjamin Holley (Crystal Jordan) of Sissonville; sister, Evelyn "Midge" Uplinger of Michigan; brother, Danny Lucas of South Carolina; grandchildren Geri Ann Parsons, James "Buddy" Zirkle, Stephanie Picklesimer, Michele Holley, Chelsea Bowen and Chad Bowen; 8 great grandchildren, James, Alexis, Tyler, Ashley, Britney, Chase, Cody, and Breanna; special friends, Betty Bowen, Wanda Arthur and Loretta Stewart; many nieces and nephews, she loved them all.

There will be visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 24, at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar, after which the procession will leave for the cemetery for graveside services at 2 p.m., at Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar with the Rev. Corbet May officiating. Keeping with Betty's wishes there will be no funeral service. After the graveside services, fellowship will be offered at Brown United Methodist Church, all are welcome.

Betty requested that in lieu of flowers, donation be made to charities to help children. Betty loved children and they had a special place in her heart. She could not stand the thought of children being mistreated or abused, hungry and homeless or without the comforts that we take for granted each day. Make you donations to a children's charity in memory of Betty.

Her family would like to send their appreciations to Dr. Jeff Hively and his staff at Spring Hill Primary Care; Dr. Chris Bowman and the wonderful staff from the 100 hallway at Dunbar Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mom was treated with respect, dignity and great care, thank you for all that you did to make her journey into Heaven a little easier.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
