Obituary

Betty L. Sayre Lynch, of Dunbar, died on Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Dunbar Rehabilitation Center from complications of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. She was 70.

Betty was born in Leon, on August 11, 1943 to Perry V. and Hazel Bennett Sayre. The youngest of eight children, she was known by many to be a feisty and loving woman who cared for anyone who crossed her path, especially children.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Rachel Clae Lynch, her parents, Perry and Hazel Sayre, her brothers Lee, Robert, and Wayne Sayre, and her sisters Louise Wandling and Norma Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roger C. Lynch, and her children, Perry & Jessica Lynch of Columbia, MD and Victoria & Allen Griffin of Cooper's Creek. She leaves behind a legacy of love to her 'adopted children and grandchildren,' including son Stacey McDaniel of Elkview, daughter Melonee Price, and grandsons Zane Alexander & Wyatt Clay Nottingham of Dunbar and Brandon Meiklejohn of Columbia, MD. She is also survived by her sisters Mildred (& Howard) Parsons, and Stella (& Luster) Doughty, both of Dunbar. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends who will miss her greatly.

Betty grew up on Tribble Road in Mason County, and graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1960. She was an extremely talented seamstress, and worked with fabrics for many years. After working for 16 years at Mr. Sewing Machine in Dunbar, she retired due to illness. She was active in her community and her church, Dunbar Mountain Mission. For many years, she teamed up with her husband Roger to portray Mr. & Mrs. Santa every Christmas, and was an active member of the WV Santa Claus Society. She was also past Pocahontas of the Daughters of Pocahontas Lodge in Dunbar.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Friday December 6, at Dunbar Mountain Mission. Friends and family may visit beginning at 3 p.m.

Funeral procession departs Keller Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. Saturday December 7. Burial will follow at Creston Church Cemetery, Evans.
