Obituary

Betty Mays, 86, of Charleston, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2021, with her family by her side.

She was born on October 19, 1934 in Charleston.

Betty was a member of the Dunbar Church of Christ. She retired from Chapman Printing after 10 plus years of service.

She loved staying busy painting ceramics, water color drawings and teaching others her gift of art. Betty enjoyed the outdoors gardening and taking care of her Koi fish in her beautiful Koi ponds. She always loved meeting new friends and eating out. Betty loved her dogs, sometimes more than her family, LOL!!. They kept her great company most of her life. She was a loving, kind and generous mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Lee and Ecil Bailey; and her loving husband of 61 years, John E. Mays.

Betty is survived by her son, John Bradley Mays (Kathy) of Lake Geneva, WI; daughter, Linda Renee Mays of Dunbar; grandchildren, Tiffany Wawrzyniak of Elburn, IL and Ashley Mays of Lake Geneva, WI; great-grandchildren, Amber Wawrzyniak and Johnny Wawrzyniak of Elburn, IL, and Baylee Kaufman of Lake Geneva, WI.

Thank you to all of her loving friends and care givers for their comfort, compassion and services given by all.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at Dunbar Church of Christ, 309 15th Street, Dunbar, WV 25064, with Minister Jerrod Doss officiating.

Friends may gather following the service, at the church, until 3 p.m.
