Obituary

Betty J Summers, 85, of Cross Lanes, passed peacefully surrounded by her daughter, Heidi, granddaughter, Nikki, and beloved cat, Minka in Snellville, Ga.  early Friday, August 14, 2020.

Betty was born May 21, 1935 in her grandmother's home. She was married to her teenage sweetheart, Delbert Summers, and had three children. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and strove to honor Him in all that she did. Betty was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hurricane. She was an original staff member serving as a teachers aide, at Calvary Baptist Academy from where she retired in 1996. There she was a positive role model to many students, in turn these students had a lasting and positive impact on her as well. She loved each one as if they were her own.  After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit her many grandchildren in Georgia and wintering in Phoenix. She enjoyed reading her Bible, crosswords puzzles, going to yard sales, playing games with family, crocheting, and of course a good piece of bread and butter!

Most of all she looked forward to the day she would meet Jesus face to face. She loved us all and wished we could "just all go together" because she did not want to leave us behind.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Delbert Summers, sons David Ray and Charles Daniel Summers, and parents Paul and Alta Buckland.

Betty is survived by her daughter Heidi Williams; daughters-in-law, Ann Summers (Daniel) and Goldie Summers (David); grandchildren Nikki Williams, who was her primary caregiver and with whom she shared a special bond, Wayne, Paul, Sarah and Ernest Summers; several great and great-great grandchildren; sister Etta Walker; sister-in-law, Leota Summers; brother-in-law Arnold Summers; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other "adopted" family members.

A very special thank you to Nancy Whittington for all she has done over the years for both mom and dad, and to Kathy Hughes who has helped us care for mom. We appreciate and love both of you.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m on Wednesday, August 19 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Pete Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
