Beulah "Boodie" Louise Laake Shafer of South Charleston, West Virginia died at Capitol Hospice, Arlington Virginia on December 27, 2007 after a battle with cancer.
She is a long-time member of the Dunbar Nazarene Church, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and faithful friend. Her giving nature was admired by all who knew her.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia on September 12, 1926, she lived her entire life in the Kanawha Valley. She worked from age fourteen and retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital as a devoted Licensed Practical Nurse.
She is survived by her children, David and his wife Sheri and Gary Shafer; grandchildren Wesley Shafer and Portia Carroll and her husband Brian; great grandchildren Jacob and William Carroll; sisters Ruth Queen, Betty Mallett, Maxine Laake and sister-in-law Loretta Ferrell Laake and numerous nieces including Connie Potter and Diana Andrews who provided special comfort and assistance during her illness, nephews and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Oma Withrow Laake; Sisters Waneda Cobb, Faye Potter and Brother Franklin Randall Laake; daughter-in-law Doris Landers Shafer and husband George Wesley Shafer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 31, at Dunbar Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Patricia Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
