Brian A.
Gillispie
October 7, 1964 – March 31, 2014
Brian Alan Gillispie went home to the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2014 after a sudden and short illness.
He was the loving son of parents, Harold Lee Gillispie and Gloria Jean Rader Gillispie of Dunbar. Brian was born at Fort Polk Army Base, Vernon Parrish, Louisiana on October 7, 1964. He was 49 years old and a long-time resident of Dunbar. He was a graduate of Dunbar Senior High, Class of 1982, and worked at WV Auto Adjustment in Charleston.
Brian had an enormous capacity for laughter, and could find a reason to find humor from nearly any situation. His greatest joys in life were laughing and reminiscing old stories with his friends and family, listening to his favorite music, bowling, the Dallas Cowboys, and above all, baseball, and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved cats, Elvis, AC/DC, and John Wayne. Brian had an incredible memory, and could cite the answer to nearly any baseball fact or statistic question presented to him, and an endless list of favorite movie quotes. The world has lost part of its song with the loss of his laughter.
Brian was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Samuel and Effie Gillispie, and his maternal grandparents, Howard and Mabel Rader.
He is survived by sister, Karen Fields (Scott) and nephew Brennan David Fields, and niece Reagan Scott Fields of Mink Shoals; and fiance, Cheryl Gillespie of Nitro. Brian also leaves behind his beloved cat, Tabitha, and a multitude of friends and family who loved him very much.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 4, at Northside Church of the Nazarene, North Charleston, with the Rev. John Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 3, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
