Burrell S. Miller, 74, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 9, 2009, after a valiant battle with a long illness.
Burrell was born on November 17, 1934 in Belle Glade, Florida, to John and Mary Miller. He devoted over 22 years of his life serving his country as a US Marine with combat service in Vietnam. He loved the Marine Corps and after retiring, Burrell continued to serve by helping other veterans as Deputy Director of the West Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs. He retired from state service and stayed home to help his ill wife, Frances.
Burrell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances.
He is survived by his loving wife, Greta McMillion-Miller of South Charleston; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Jamie Miller of Cross Lanes, son, Michael Miller of Columbus, Ohio; step-sons, John Arthur of Mesa, Arizona, Larry Arthur of Ohio and Kevin Walker of Florida; step-daughter, Regina McClanahan of Poca. Burrell is also survived by his brother, Zane Miller of Michigan; sisters, Betty Allen, Jackie Seyler and Carolyn Terell of Florida, as well as 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Ron Armstrong and the Rev. Lawrence Slater officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
