Candace Nichole
Brogan James
May 6, 1985 – October 4, 2023
Candace Nichole Brogan James passed from this life on October 4, 2023 at Charleston Area Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1985 in South Charleston. She was a life long resident of West Virginia, except for a brief period during her teenage years when she she lived in Texas, where she graduated from high school.
Following her high school graduation, she returned to West Virginia where she worked various jobs including Charleston Newspapers, Things Remembered, WalMart, and Arby's. In addition to those jobs, Candace provided care and companionship to her mother Nona Lynn Swagger Orem, who was disabled.
Candace's greatest accomplishment was the birth of her children, Nehemiah Aundre James and Isaiah Lee James. She loved them with her whole heart and spoke of them continually. She was proud of their musical and athletic accomplishments.
Candace was known by everyone she met to be a very positive and loving person. She enjoyed listening to music and writing in her many journals.
She was a good cook and loved daffodils. She loved family gatherings, pumpkin pie frosties from Wendy's, and Aunt Martha's lemon breeze. She never held a grudge.
Candace's motto was Hakuna Matata - No Worries. Although she faced many challenges in her life, she never seemed to be down. She was happy-go-lucky, a trait she shared with her mother, who preceded her in death. The family is confident that a joyous reunion occurred on the other side, where both Nona and Candace have been made whole.
In addition her sons, Candace is survived by a host of family and friends who will deeply miss her positive attitude.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care that Candace received in Cardio-Pulmonary ICU at CAMC Memorial. The nurses and other staff went above and beyond to provide comfort to both Candace and the family.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Rock Branch Independent Church with Pastors Aaron Ramsey and Delbert Hawley officiating. John Koster, a special teacher and friend from Cross Lanes Christian School will offer the eulogy.
Friends my call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
