Carl Browning, Jr., 79, of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Hubbard Hospice House.
He was born in Wyoming County on December 12, 1930. He was a devoted Christian and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He followed construction work for eight years and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in France and Germany. In 1958 he came to live in Charleston. He was employed by Carbon Fuel/U.S. Steel for 32 years and retired in 1986.
He was devoted to his daily Bible study and loved to share God's word. He attended Charleston Mountain Mission Church and enjoyed going to the radio broadcast services. He also loved teaching Sunday school class, which he did for 25 years at previous churches.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his mother, Ruby; and three brothers, James, Donald and Charles.
Carl is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elva; one son, Doug Browning of Rand; one daughter, Kim Roberts and her husband John of Charleston; three grandchildren, Stephanie Selbe and her husband, Isaac of Dunbar, Mark Roberts and Lucas Roberts of Charleston; three brothers, Harold Browning and his wife, Mattie of Springfield, Ohio, Roy Browning and his wife, Dorothy of Lansing, Michigan and Hershell Browning of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters, Loretta McClure and her husband, Mike of Daytona Beach, Florida and Ann Bailey of Beckley. He will be greatly missed and always loved by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Fairley McCormick officiating and the Rev. Ron Fisher assisting. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
