Carl "Boonie" Slater, 84, of Dunbar, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at home with his loving wife, family and his dog, Dutchess, by his side.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Carl Slater, mother, Goldie Edith Slater and sister, Florence Selbe.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorena "Renie"; daughter, Sharon Bishop and her husband, Bob of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Jerry and his wife, Lynn of Lewisburg; son, Stephen and his wife, Karen of Sissonville; grandchildren, Nikki Grigsby, Jeff Slater and his wife, Brittany, Ashley, Olivia, Sam Slater and Barbara Snyder and her husband, Jeremy and Scott Bishop; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Jacob Grigsby, Madison and Cassidy Snyder; also niece, Rhea Varian and her husband, Bill and nephews, Leland and Doug Selbe.
Carl served in the Pacific Theater with the Army Air Corps, 2018 Ordinance Unit during World War II. He continued supporting his country by serving in the Korean War and went on to finish his military career with the West Virginia Air National Guard, retiring in 1984.
Carl was a maintenance foreman at Carbide's South Charleston plant and retired with over forty years of dedicated service. He was a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, at the Dunbar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless and the Rev. John A. Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, with military honors.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, January 18, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
