Obituary

Carlette Ray Dixon, 90, of Dunbar passed away on May 17, 2014.

He was born in Charleston on September 1, 1923 to the late John Vail and Sadie Hazel Dixon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford Dixon, Thurman Dixon, and Lewie Dixon.

Carlette was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during WW II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars in 1945 for his campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was retired from Union Carbide where he had worked as an Insulator for 34 years. He was a lifelong member of Nitro Moose Lodge #565.

Carlette is survived by his sons, Arnold Dixon and wife, Mary Anne of Fairfax, VA, Bruce Dixon and wife, Denise of Alpharetta, GA, and Jerry Dixon of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Joshua Dixon of Texas, Angela Klein of Newton, Mass., Lindsay Dixon of Atlanta, GA, Michael Dixon of Alpharetta, GA, Brian Dixon of Richmond, VA, and Matt Dixon and wife, Sabrina of Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Collin Dixon and Finnegan Klein of Newton, Mass.; brothers, Ira Dixon of Charleston and Delmar Dixon and wife, Carol of Scott Depot.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Gail Medley officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
