Carlos N. "Neal" Thomas, 77, of Sissonville, died peacefully at home following a short illness and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, June 13, 2006.
Neal married Juanita J. "Nita" Balser on November 18, 1946 and was looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this fall.
He is survived by one son, Edward, and Rose, his wife, of Frederick, Maryland and their two sons, Kyle of New York City and Chase who resides at home.
Born June 21, 1928 of Euston D. and Leah M. Thomas of Sissonville, Neal was the only son of six children. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Breeden and June Saulsgiver, and leaves three surviving sisters, Lou Echard and May Thomas, both of South Charleston, and Betty Harper of Sissonville.
He was a 1945 graduate of Sissonville High School and began work at Union Carbide's South Charleston plant as a painter on June 21st the same year. At the age of 54, Neal retired following 37 years of dedicated service in 1982.
He was actively involved with Fisher Memorial Church, Goldtown, for more than 41 years. He served on the Church Board of Directors for 27 and as Treasurer for 17 years. Neal proudly served as either Church Superintendent, or the Assistant, for 29 years and taught Sunday school for 5 years.
In the 1950's he was the manager of his son's Little League baseball team and Team Manager for the former Sissonville Independent Baseball team.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2006, at Fisher Memorial Church, Goldtown, with the Rev. Carl Chambers and the Rev. Jerry Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories immediately following the service.
Friends may pay their respects during a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at Fisher Memorial Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Cross Roads Church Building Fund, 2164 Fisher Ridge, Kenna, WV 25248, where Neal was a currently a member.
