Carol
Bowen
June 20, 1929 – June 11, 2022
Carol Bowen, 92, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
She was born on June 20, 1929, in Charleston, to the late Carl and Macel Richardson.
Carol's first job was as an elevator operator at A. W. Cox, when she was 13 years old. She was also employed as a switchboard operator at Godfrey L. Cabot Inc, and later at C & P Telephone and she worked at Hospital Physician Supply Co. She was an immaculate housekeeper, dressed to the nines and she loved to shop. She was independent, feisty and a hard worker. Her list of friends was endless. Carol was generous and loved to entertain. The spread on her table was plenteous and delicious. She made peanut butter fudge to die for, which she made for many friends and family on numerous occasions.
Carol was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene where she was involved in many ministries. She was a dedicated wife to Fred for 60 years and it was a devastating loss when he passed away from which she never recovered.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bowen ; and her sons, Rick and Gary Silman.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Debbie Hill and husband Kent of Hurricane, Nancy Shank and husband Michael of Hurricane; grandchildren, Lisa Gill and husband Darren of Pennsylvania, Jeff Hughes and wife Karen of North Carolina, Melanie Glazier and husband Chip of Georgia, Emily Shank of Hurricane, Hollie Eastin and husband Chris of Ohio, Erin Cremeans and husband Matt of Hurricane, Laura Hill of Florida; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family that visited her. And a special thanks to the staff at Celebration Villa in Hurricane and to the staff of Kanawha HospiceCare for taking such good care of her.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 20, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
