Obituary

Carolyn "Jean" Hayes of Dunbar, 70, devoted wife, cherished mother and grandmother, passed away at Charleston Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 22, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Charleston and a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School.

Jean was a stay at home mother to her three sons and was an active volunteer at Roxalana Elementary School. There she served as the crossing guard and a school cook for many years. In addition, she was a cook at Dunbar Intermediate School until she retired. At home, she was an amazing cook and always welcomed friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Willey.

Jean leaves behind her devoted husband of 46 years, William George Hayes, Jr.; three sons, Bryan (Stacey) of Charleston, George "Porgie" (Christi) of South Charleston and Wayne of Dunbar; grandchildren, Travis Moore, Kendyll and McKenna Hayes, Keirlyn Stephens.

Also surviving are her mother, Dee Gunno; and brother and sisters, Bob (Stephanie) Gunno, JoAnn (Danny) Lucas, Donna Chatman, Linda (John) Bailey, Lois Kersey, Gary (JoAnn) Gunno, Johnny Gunno, Susan (John) Swiney, Angie (Eddie) McCown, Lynn Mejdoub as well as many uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Randy Ledsome officiating. Burial will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, September 25 from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
