Carolyn Sue
Mccracken Mullins
December 5, 1941 – December 15, 2023
Carolyn Sue McCracken Mullins, 82, of Charleston was welcomed into Heaven to join her Savior and her husband, on December 15, 2023, surrounded by family at the home of her son after a short illness.
She was born on December 5, 1941, in Charleston, WV to the late Robert W. McCracken and Sylvia Marie Beaver McCracken.
Carolyn was a 1958 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and later attended night school for secretarial studies. She married the love of her life, Roger, in 1964 and moved to Norfolk, Virginia to become a navy wife. She and Roger began their family in 1966, and being a mother was the greatest role of her life. Carolyn was a homemaker and pastor's wife for most of her life, though she worked outside of the home on occasion serving as secretary to the Executive Director at Charleston Union Mission, and later retiring in 2016 after working as a bookkeeper for Cooperative Construction. She was the historian of the family who was blessed with a great memory, and anytime anyone wanted to ask about the the past, she was ready with a detailed account. Carolyn possessed the gift of hospitality and loved to fix meals for her family, friends, and anyone who happened find themselves in her home. She enjoyed tending her house plants, sewing, working puzzles, reading the newspaper and her Bible, and staying up with current events. Carolyn was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Charleston, and loved her church family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roger Glenn Mullins.
Carolyn is survived by her brother, William Glenn McCracken (Cheryl) of Charleston; her three children, Lori Keen (Glenn) of Scott Depot, Jodie Harman (Gale) of Tornado, and John Mullins (Melody) of Dunbar; seven grandchildren, Ivy Keen, Katie Cochran (Justin), Hannah Harman, Daniel "Trey" Harman, Jonathan Mullins, Justin Mullins (Chloe), and Britany Amos (Chris); and three great-grandchildren, Braxton Cochran, Josiah and Levi Mullins.
A funeral service will be held 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20 at Twin City Bible Church, Nitro with her son, Reverend John Mullins, and her pastor, Reverend Travis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Institute.
Family will receive visitors from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 19 at Twin City Bible Church, Nitro.
We would like to thank the staff at Kanawha Hospice Care for providing such good care for our mother, and offer special thanks to John and Melody Mullins who provided a loving home and round the clock care to her in the last weeks of her life.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
