Catherine "Sue" Flowers, formerly of Dunbar, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hubbard House West with family members by her side.
Sue was born on February 7, 1932, the first of seven children of the late Anna Marie (Hart) and Wallace Darrell Harpold. Her early years were spent on "Sugar Creek" just outside of Charleston.
On December 22, 1949 she married the love of her life, John Flowers and celebrated fifty-seven years devoted to each other before his death in 2007. Sue and John both were wonderful examples of a Christian life and service and were very dedicated to Dunbar Mountain Mission before their health prevented them from being active.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Harpold.
Sue is survived by her children, Frank and Susan Flowers of Red House, Bill and Bobbi Flowers of Columbia, Maryland, David and Mary Lou Flowers of Dunbar and Becky Moore (Ron Fields) of Charleston; grandchildren, Katie and Michael Choate of Hurricane, Jenny and Chad Barker of Anmoore, Joe and Shannon Flowers of Hurricane, Christie and Brian Hall of Charlotte, North Carolina, Caryn and Ryan Sheplee of Ashburn, Virginia, Courtney and J.R. Testt of Milton, Florida, Chris and Randi Redman of Springfield, Illinois, Chad and April Redman of St. Albans, Michael and Amber Flowers of Dunbar, Matt Flowers and Ashlee of Columbus, Ohio, and Kendra and Rick Martin of Hurricane; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Tom and Pat Harpold of Nitro, Patsy Hudson of Hixson, Tennessee, Michael and Peggy Harpold of Raleigh, North Carolina, Steve and Pat Harpold of Ripley and John and Trish Harpold of Tornado.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bellaire at Devonshire assisted living , memory care unit, in Scott Depot for the wonderful care and love given to Mom over the last few years and special thanks to her special caregiver, Alexis.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Dunbar Mountain Mission. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Ray Parsons, current pastor of Dunbar Mountain Mission and Rev. Ronnie Fisher, previous pastor of Dunbar Mountain Mission. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
