Charlene "Hope" Whiting, 90, of Charleston, died April 13, 2018, quietly and peacefully after a short illness at CAMC with her family by her side.
Hope was born on September 27, 1927 in Advent, WV to the late Guy and Mae Hamon.
Hope was a graduate of Ripley High School and Charleston School of Commerce. She lived many years in Dunbar and was a member of The Order of Eastern Star, South Charleston Chapter 131. She spent several years as a realtor in the Charleston area. Her proudest accomplishment in life was being a devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed being involved in activities with her children and friends. She was also a very avid bowler while living in Dunbar and Vienna. She and her husband spent over 32 years as "snowbirds" living in Florida during the winter months.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dallas Whiting, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Dallas Whiting Jr., and wife, Cindy of Lexington, KY; daughter, Rhea Orr and husband, Charles of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Mindy Wheeler and Jeremy Orr and wife, Marsha; two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Wheeler and Matthew Orr, all of Houston, TX; and others who thought of her as their aunt or grandmother.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Rev. Rodney Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairplain Cemetery, Fairplain.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
