Davisson
June 20, 1920 – March 14, 2018
Charles W. Davisson, 97, passed away on March 14, 2018, after a brief hospitalization.
He was born on June 20, 1920, the son of Carl W. Davisson and Dove McDaniel Davisson. He was a life-long resident of Charleston and lived most recently at Edgewood Summit.
Mr. Davisson was a graduate of Charleston High School and Morris Harvey College and was a chemist employed by Union Carbide for thirty-five years prior to his retirement. He served in WW II as a lieutenant in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier Enterprise, serving in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. During his life he had been both a Methodist and Presbyterian by faith and most recently, was a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and serving as a Sunday School teacher. He was also active in Boy Scout Program and Leadership.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Johnson Davisson; son, Joseph Lynn Davisson; and one step-daughter, Kathy Gibson Minsker.
Mr. Davisson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sybil Clinton Davisson. He is also survived by one son, Charles W. Davisson, Jr. (Diane) of The Villages, Florida; one daughter, Thisbe Marie Cooper (John), of Canaan Valley; two grandchildren, Christopher W. Cooper (Kim) of Canaan Valley, Joseph T. Cooper (Anne Kurbos-Cooper) of Sylvania, Ohio; a step-son-in-law, William Minsker (Mary Kay) of Bluffton, South Carolina; two step-grandchildren, Jason Minsker of Buckhannon, Melissa "Missy" Minsker of Frederick, Maryland; and by six great-grandchildren, Ema Kurbos-Cooper, Anja Kurbos-Cooper, Blaž Kurbos-Cooper, John Edward Palmer, Owen Joseph Cooper, and Isabella Rochelle Cooper.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 19 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor John Mason and Rev. Teresa Markins officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Ave, Dunbar, WV 25064.
