Obituary

Charles K. "Charley" Elkins left this world to begin his new life on Thursday, December 3, 2009.

He passed at his home of 50 years, surrounded by loving friends and family.

Charley was a member of Dunbar First Church United Methodist and taught several adult classes over his many years of service to the Lord. He retired as a Master Laboratory Technician, having worked 40 years for the Union Carbide Corporation at the South Charleston Technical Center. Charley was a pioneer in the UCC Computer Group, helping to develop the first computer controlled reactor systems in the ethylene oxide area.

He was born on January 30, 1931. Charley was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lynn Cupit.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sue and three sons, Steve and his wife Cindy of Nashville, Tennessee, Kevin of Dunbar and Doug, also of Dunbar; son-in-law, Gordon Cupit of South Charleston. Charley was also blessed with three grandchildren, Chad and his wife, Anne of Charleston, SC, Jason, of Nashville, TN and Emily of Brooklyn, NY.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live" John 11:25. In believing this, a celebration of Charley's life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., on Saturday, December 6, 2009, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2009, at the Dunbar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty.
