Charles Boyd
Hinchey
May 25, 1933 – December 3, 2025
Charles Boyd Hinchey, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born to William Hinchey and Clifton Caldwell Hinchey, Charles was raised with strong family values that guided his life and shaped the gentle, compassionate man he became.
A proud veteran, Charles served in the U.S. Army, where he demonstrated the same sense of duty, discipline, and integrity that remained central to his life.
Charles was married to the love of his life, Rosana Marie Hinchey, who preceded him in death on May 7, 2021. Their enduring partnership was filled with devotion, warmth, and a steadfast faith. Charles and Rosana were longtime members of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Charleston, where they shared fellowship, service, and deep spiritual connection with their community.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Charles built a long and respected career with Appalachian Electric Power Company, working from September 1, 1958, until his retirement on September 1, 1994. His commitment, reliability, and professionalism left a lasting impression on his colleagues. Charles believed deeply in serving others and giving back to his community.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge, volunteered for ten years with Habitat for Humanity, and served as Secretary for the John Amos Retirees Club. His willingness to contribute his time and talents reflected his generous heart and lifelong desire to help those around him.
Beyond his service and work, Charles embraced life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He loved traveling, hunting, and fishing, and he especially cherished his time at deer camp in Pocahontas County, one of his favorite places, filled with laughter, stories, and friendship. Most of all, Charles treasured time with his family. Whether gathered around a table, sharing a quiet moment, or celebrating life's milestones, those times were his greatest joy.
Charles is survived by two sons: Allen Lee Burgess and his wife, Gayla Moon-Burgess, of Topeka, Kansas, and Randall Hinchey of Inwood, West Virginia. He leaves behind two grandchildren: Brandon Burgess, and Brittany Grim and her husband, Brian. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cory Allen Burgess. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Carly Dawn Moon-Warnick and her husband, David Warnick, and Tyler James Moon and his wife, Ericca Watson; as well as three great-grandchildren, Adrianna Burgess, Cayden Grim, and Kylan Grim. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law, Terri Miskell Hinchey, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Dorothy, Gladys, Pauline, Worley, Lucy, Shirley, and Don. With his passing, the circle is complete and the Hinchey siblings are together again.
Charles will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
