Charles Lawrence (Rudsinske) Fields, 68, of Dunbar, departed this life Monday, July 16, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on October 19, 1949 to Charles Fields and Betty Sue Blizzard.
Charles attended Dunbar High School and enlisted in the Army at the young age of seventeen, where he served his country honorably as an AeroScout in B Company of the 123 rd Aviation Battalion. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him three Purple Hearts, the Air Medal with 5 devices and the Army Commendation Medal.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he resided in Dunbar for the remainder of his adult life, where he was active in the Dunbar Jaycees and worked at Union Carbide.
Charles is survived by his four beloved children; sons, Craig, Bryan, and Jason Fields of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Rhonda Fields (Megan Dyer) of Fraziers Bottom. He is also survived by three sisters, Fonda McCormick of Dunbar, Heather Williams of Manteo, NC, and Laurel (Bo) Copen of Sissonville.
A burial with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 30 in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor John Rutherford officiating. A procession to the cemetery will leave Keller Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
