Charles Edward "Ed" McNeil, went home to be with Jesus on August 31, 2014 surrounded by his family after a long illness.
He was born June 17, 1953 to Dorothy Thaxton McNeil and Paul Edward McNeil in Charleston.
Ed was a 27 year representative of AFLAC but he will be most fondly remembered for his years of coaching softball in Dunbar, at South Charleston High, and West Virginia State University. Ed will forever be in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren and friends for the amazing man of God that he was.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother James Scott McNeil.
He is survived by his loving wife Tami (Atkinson) McNeil, daughters Chrissy Orcutt and her husband Chris of Charleston, Katie College and her husband Brian of Louisiana, Aimee Perdue and her husband Jake of St. Albans, and Emilee Arnold and her husband Jansen of St. Albans. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren who were the light of his life; Haley Orcutt, Hunter, Lilee and Braxton College, Easton and Greenlee Perdue, and Charlee and Landon Arnold. Also left to cherish his memory are his father and mother-in-law Al and Stella Atkinson of Charleston.
Funeral service will be held at 9:45 Thursday, September 4 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Darren Powell and Rev. Mark Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Thursday.
