Charles Edward Selbe, 80, of North Charleston, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Dunbar after a long illness.
He worked and retired from the C & O Railroad after 29 years of service. He loved the trains and could hear them coming for miles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest Lee and Janet Means Selbe, brother, William and Calvin Ballard, sisters, Wanda Dunlap and Virginia Selbe.
He will be sadly loved and missed by his wife of 53 years, Mollie Mae Jarrell Selbe; daughter, Gloria Faye Tyler of Poca and her ex-husband, Charles W. Tyler, Jr. of Sissonville; adopted daughter, Pam Holstein Hall of North Charleston; grandsons, Charles Alan Clark and his wife, Samantha "Little Britches" of North Charleston, Thomas J. "TJ" Clark and his wife, Jennifer of Charleston. He was not only a PaPaw but was a Dad to them, too. Also surviving are his brother, Paul Selbe and his wife, Iona "Snip" of Kanawha City; brothers-in-law, Roy W. Jarrell, Sr. and his wife, Sue of St. Albans and Delbert Leadman of Michigan; sister-in-law, Rebra Jones and her husband, Tex of St. Albans; four great grandchildren, Chloe Marie Clark of So. Charleston,Tray Lee Clark of Charleston, Gavin Michael Clark of So. Charleston and Jada Nicole Clark of Charleston and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends will sadly miss Charles.
The family would like to give "Special Thanks" to the nurses, nurse aides and staff at SunBridge Nursing Home who gave special care and love to Mr. Selbe. He was loved by everyone there, even the residents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 14, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Delmar Young and the Rev. Travis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
