Charles L. Skees, 90, of Dunbar, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home in Dunbar.
He retired from Union Carbide with 21 years of service and then owned/operated an over the road truck service. Charles was a US Navy veteran of WW II, having served from 1942 to 1945.
He was a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159, the Beni Kedem Temple, Legion of Honor and the Scottish Rite. Charles was active in driving the van for the Shriners Childrens Hospital, transporting children to the Shriners Orthopedic and Burn Centers in Cincinnati, OH and Lexington, KY. He received the Driver Coordinator award in January 2000 for his faithful service.
Charles was also a member of the Huntington Railroad Historical Society. He traveled the excursion train from Charleston to White Sulphur Springs as a narrator giving information about local history.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Skees, sister, Mary Jane Faulks Pulerbaugh and Charlotte Stockmaster, brother, Wilbur Skees and son-in-law, Ron Smith.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Thomas A. Skees and his wife, Linda of Dunbar; granddaughters, Tina Watson of Charleston, Tammy Duffield of Virginia Beach, VA and Tara Pressler of San Antonio, TX; two great grandchildren, Emily Pressler and Christian Watson; brother, Eddie Skees of Michigan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, March 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey Harless officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
