Charles Eugene Spaniol, 91, of Dunbar, formerly of Charleston, passed away on April 12, 2011 in South Charleston after a short illness.
He was born January 14, 1920, a son of George William and Mary Gertrude Spaniol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, G. William and John J. Spaniol and his sister, Rita E. Spaniol Ray. He is survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A graduate of Charleston Catholic High School, he was an active member of the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, where he served many years as a head usher. He was an avid gardener and once owned a florist shop. He was retired from Sheet Metal Workers International.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 16, at Sacred Heart with Msgr. P. Edward Sadie officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Charleston.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
