Miller

Charlie H. Miller was born on December 12, 1937, in Orgas, West Virginia, to the late John Henry and Bessie Miller.
Charlie was a lifelong member of the Institute Church of the Nazarene, where he helped lay the foundation of the church. He attended Institute Elementary and graduated from West Virginia State Teacher Training High School in 1955. He studied at West Virginia State College before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1957, becoming one of the first to complete integrated basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina.
He served his country with honor completing three tours in Vietnam with the First Marine Aircraft Wing and Recon as a gunner and electronics engineer.
On May 16, 1969, he married Eliza Jean Parker. To this union, Cheryl Renee Miller, Charlie H. Miller, Jr., and John O. Miller were born. On December 26, he married Valeria "Kay" Powell, whom he remained with until her passing in 2023.
He retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9) in May 1988.
Following his military service, Charlie worked for Diesel Recon in plant management until his retirement in 2001. He later served as a manager with Technicolor until his final retirement. He was also a Master Mason of St. Alban Lodge #5 and a Shriner.
Charlie transitioned from this life on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his daughter, Cheryl and Charlie, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Cheryl Miller-Stewart (Strang), Beatrice Lawson (Thomas), Sharon "Tye" Parker (Reginald), Darlene Jacobs, and Kimberly Hobson-Brooks (Robert); his sons: Charlie "Getchie" Hill (Tracie), Charlie H. Miller, Jr. (Lisa), and John O. Miller;
His brothers, Claude "Rennie" Miller (Joan), Lige Lee Miller, and Melvin Miller (Jean), sisters Bernice Miller (Jacqu) and Elaine Johnson;
13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins.
A life of service, a legacy of strength, and a love that endures.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Institute Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
