Obituary

Charlotte I. Carter, 89, of Dunbar, passed away on January 20, 2018, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

In addition to being a loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; she was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for various businesses in Kanawha County, including Hobet Mining, C.H. Heist, McDonough Caperton, Shepard and Goldsmith Insurance and Charleston Newspapers Advertising-Classifieds Department.

Along with her parents, Homer and Eliza Slaughter, she was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Howard D. Carter; brother, William Slaughter; and sister, Norma Harvey.

Charlotte is survived by her son, John P. Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and David Flowers; five grandchildren, Chris Redman (Randi), Chad Redman (April), Angie Hager (Patrick), Mike Flowers (Amber) and Matt Flowers (Ashlee); seven great-grandchildren; and one niece, Rhonda Archibald (Ronnie).

The family would like to extend its thanks for the exceptional, loving and compassionate care given to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and to us, the family, by the nurses and staff of Hubbard Hospice House West during the last days of her life.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Reverend Mark Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
