Charlotte D. Kourey, 90, of South Charleston, passed away, Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Heartland of Charleston after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Charlotte was born and raised in Clay, and came to Charleston in the late 1940's to attend business school. She worked at Kourey's Sweet Shop, where she met her future husband, the late Roger E. Kourey. She went on to work at Union Carbide as a secretary for several years. She was a loving and caring wife and mother with many talents, and touched the hearts of many people.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston for many years and later attended South Charleston Presbyterian Church. She was active in circles with both of these churches. She was very involved in the community and the lives of her children in many capacities from PTA to homeroom mother.
In addition to her husband, she is also preceded in death by her brother, John S. Downey; sisters, Julia Pierson, and Louise Moore.
Mrs. Kourey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joseph T. and Beverly Kourey of Charleston; daughters, Nancy K. Cupit of South Charleston, with whom she made her home for several years, and Alice K. Gill and her husband, Tracy of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Charlotte Gill and Tanner Gill both of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
