Cheryl Ann Cox, 71, of Dunbar, passed away on October 4, 2022 at Charleston Area Medical Center following a short illness.

Cheryl was born on January 29, 1951 in Charleston. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1968, and then from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Journalism. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority at WVU.

Cheryl lived in Boston after college, working at Burbank and Company, Fidelity, and Eaton & Howard. She also lived in California, working at Bradford & Co. and American Phone Service Co. before returning to West Virginia.

She was known as WVCat, and enjoyed sharing her political views on talk radio and online. She was interested in photography and travel, and collected magnets from each place she or her loved ones visited. She was also an avid cat lover.

She is preceded in passing by her parents Della Loving Cox and Darrel Hershel Cox of Dunbar, her brother Anthony "Tony" Darrell Cox, and her special cat Gracie.

She is survived by her sister, Natalie Jo Haynes; nephew, Connor Mason Haynes; niece Amber Nichole Colatosti; and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Friends and family are welcome to join for the service.
