Cheryl Garnes, of Dunbar, went home to be with our savior on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 after a chronic illness.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. Cheryl was a dedicated member of Rebecca Chapel Church in Dunbar. She was very involved in caregiving and received a Jefferson award for outstanding public service. She enjoyed a simple life after being medically retired in 2013. She enjoyed the Gulf of Mexico with her family, and never hesitated to speak the truth to anyone. Cheryl was simple woman whose greatest joy was driving kids anywhere they wanted to go and buying them what they wanted. She had one of the most beautiful singing voices and there is no doubt that she is singing praises to our King in glory.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Pribble Young of Dunbar; and her sister, Pam Reynolds.

She is survived by her son, Zachary Garnes and wife Jessica; sisters, Diana Vondearu and Debra Young; and her grandchildren, Caleb Fisher and Peyton Reynolds.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, with Reverend Ronnie Nida officiating.
