Obituary

Colletta Ja Gray, 68, from South Charleston formerly of Dunbar passed peacefully and comfortably November 15, 2023 in the MICU at CAMC.

Born December 11, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Lynn Snodgrass Gray Scaggs and the late Charles W. Gray.

Colletta was a 1974 graduate of Dunbar High School where she cherished her band and drill team days. She dedicated her life to healthcare service as an LPN, graduating from Garnet Career Center in 1982. She further received her ADN degree in 2009 from WV State Community College. She worked for several health care agencies including CAMC General Division, St. Francis Hospital, and most recently provided in home care for Right At Home. Colletta was an avid scrapbooker where she enjoyed her scrapbooking retreats and made many friends through those adventures. Her love of travel meant she was always ready to go to the beach. She explored Alaska and the beautiful islands of the Caribbean and Bahamas with her cruising friends. Being a fan of WVU and OSU she enjoyed watching their football games. Colletta loved her music, whether it was WVU marching band, Gospel, country, Motown or Jimmy Buffet. Some would call her a "parrothead". Let's not forget how she loved her Baskin Robbins ice cream with their pink spoons. She was a former member of Starcher Baptist Church in North Charleston, WV.

In addition to her parents, Colletta was preceded in death by her niece she adored, Lorrie Finn;  and other extended family members.

Cherishing her memory are her beloved sister, Nannette Burger of Nitro, WV; niece, Stephanie Dingess; stepsister, Charlotte Bowling of Dunbar, WV; and stepbrother, Russell Scaggs of Raleigh, NC.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors in the MICU at CAMC for their kindness and care to Colletta and her family.

A celebration of Colletta's life will be held  at 5 p.m. on Monday, November20, 2023 at Dunbar United Methodist Church 1402 Myers Avenue Dunbar, WV.
