Hawkins
May 26, 1931 – October 29, 2017
Corintha Mae Hawkins, 86, of South Charleston, daughter of the late James Arthur Wilson and Viola Davis Wilson who was born May 26, 1931 in Fayetteville, went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2017.
Corintha attended public schools in Fayette County graduating from DuBois High School. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a deaconess and served on the Usher Board before her health began to decline.
Corintha worked for Appalachian Power Company for 25 years. She loved working with people and was known for her infectious smile.
Upon retirement she dedicated the rest of her life to family especially her beloved grandson, Michael Petties. She was affectionately known as "Maw Maw" to everyone. Corintha opened her arms and home to all family and friends. She will always be remembered as "The Caregiver" who loved unconditionally. Corintha will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her love and smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Francis Hawkins; first born daughter, Cynthia Petties; her beloved grandson, Michael Petties; sister, Gladys Louise Jasper; brothers, Cornell, Alphonso and Thomas Wilson.
Corintha is survived by her two daughters, Agathia "Gaye" Chester and Alvita Hawkins; son, Alan Hawkins; her loving and devoted sister, Trula Wilson; brothers, James (Monica) of Frankfort, Germany, Larry of Atlanta, Georgia, Herman Wilson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Wayman (Patricia) of Dunbar; grandchildren, Sgt. Christopher Hawkins-Jones (Jacque), Ashley, Alexis and Anthony Hawkins, Michelle Petties, Dana and DJ Chester II; and great grandchildren, Jaxon and Londyn Hawkins-Jones, and Ryan Hawkins-Davis.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1530 3 rd Avenue, Charleston. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
